Hans Koch, Martin Schütz and Fredy Studer expanded their trio into a six-piece ensemble in order to further develop their ideas and give the composed structures and mature grooves greater sonic richness. The coregroup is joined by guitarist Stephan Wittwer, for whom heavy metal and freejazz are synonymous, trombonist Andreas Marti with his penchant for deep soundscapes, and innovative pianist and soundartist Jacques Demierre. The ten pieces on Chockshut are full of sharp cuts and quick maneuvers that tear the music out of any recognizable compositional form. Expressive outbursts attack organic developments. Minimal, rhythmically intricate structures are followed by rich grooves. Free improvisations give rise to angular patterns and cuttingriffs. “A musical party for any one interested in music and content,” writes journalist Thom Jurek in AllMusicReview.
